WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) – Deputies are leaving nothing off the table, as they try to get to the bottom of Tuesday's deadly shooting.
Loren Saunders, 16, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest. Exactly how the Alba teen was shot remains a mystery.
No charges have been filed, no arrests have been made, but that could change once Wood County authorities get their hands on the preliminary autopsy report.
According to friends, the two-room cabin near Lake Fork was supposed to be a temporary home for Loren Saunders and his father. Deputies say the two moved in not too long ago, after their old home sold.
Apparently, they were the only two allegedly inside the same room when the gun went off.
Wood County Investigator Sgt. William Burge says it's too early to say for certain what happened. "There's questions, and when you don't have answers to those questions, of course, it raises concerns."
"I'm not going to call it homicide, I'm not going to call it suicide, and I'm not going to call it accidental," said Burge.
Burge says Loren's father called 911 and tried doing CPR on his son.
The boy was dead when deputies got on the scene.
Authorities also say two handguns were taken from the cabin: a .22 and a 9MM.
