Suspect in Rusk Co. hunting accident turns himself in

RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Fort Worth man accused of shooting and killing an Overton man in an apparent hunting accident in January has turned himself into Rusk County authorities.

According to a press release from the Rusk County Sheriff's Department, Rodney Connally, 53, turned himself in at approximately 8:30, Wednesday morning.

On January 13, 2011, an arrest warrant was issued for Connally for Criminal Negligent Homicide, a State Jail Felony, for the shooting death of Louis N. Conner, 41, of Overton.

Connally admitted to shooting Louis Conner, stating he had mistaken the victim for a deer while hunting on a lease in Overton.

At the time of the shooting Connally was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, a 3rd degree felony, and was later released on a $50,000 bond.

His current bond has been set at $50,000.
