EAST TEXAS (KLTV) – With less than three weeks to go until the big Super Bowl XLV, more than half a million people are expected to make their way to the Metroplex for the festivities; and they'll need a place to stay. Some East Texans are making extra room, and possibly, some extra cash.
A Craigslist listing boasted a 1900 square foot, 4-bedroom home for $1500 for Super Bowl weekend. And apparently, that's fairly cheap.
Jason Gregory is with Gregory Property Management in Tyler, he says, "They range in Dallas anywhere from $1250 a day to as much as $7000 a day."
For some areas closer to the stadium, you can pretty much name your price.
Gregory says he hasn't heard of any temporary Super Bowl rentals in the Tyler area, but he says anything is possible; especially if you're a little closer to the action.
He also says our East Texas neighbors to the west like Canton and Wills Point could be fair Super Bowl rental game.
Another Craigslist ad featured a Super Bowl party package deal in Wills Point; $2500 a night. The owner of the property believes some will be willing to go that far.
"For someone that needs a larger facility and wants to have a large Super Bowl and possibly overnight accommodations, I think that we'll be seeing some activity," says the owner.
Hotel Manager Karla North says she's heard of Bowl bookings as far away as Waco, but not here—not yet.
Gregory says "I don't think it's completely far-fetched and I know that I'm not alone when I say that I hope that we see something from it."
"If somebody wanted to put their house up, please give me a call. I will put it on our website and make it available," Gregory stated.
Another draw for the Canton-Van Zandt County area is First Monday. The next one falls on the same weekend as the Super Bowl.
