Aspiring Law Enforcement Officers Train in Tyler

Eighty young adults, hoping for futures in law enforcement, were learning some valuable skills in Tyler this week.

The Law Enforcement Exploring Academy held its drills and evaluation at the Rose Garden Center Friday.

Last Monday, students began starting each day with physical fitness training, then set off on a variety of training programs.  Like these kids being evaluated on processing a crime scene. They also learn the art of negotiation, something one of Tyler Police's chief crisis negotiators says will benefit them later on.

"It will help them in their personal and professional life. They're learning the most important thing about negotiating, and that's how to listen," says Sgt. Connie Castle.

The closing ceremonies and awards banquet are set for Friday night at the Tyler Rose Garden Center.
