NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Georgia Banning Welch was caring for grandchildren in Dayton to help out a daughter-in-law. Early this week she came back to Etoile to try to patch up a failing marriage of 26 years. It didn't work out. She says she was beaten by her husband, Jack Welch.

"She had a black eye. He had choked her," said Welch's daughter in law, GlynnEllen Banning by phone from her home in Dayton. "She wound up having three fractured ribs and her nose was broken in two places when one she got the hospital."

For two days Welch tried to escape.

"She was trying to leave the premises and he kept pulling her back into the house and wouldn't let her leave," said Welch.

Finally Georgia contacted her son to come get her. When he arrived, Welch fled. They went to the hospital. Deputies were notified.

After finally receiving emergency service, Welch then received a jolt. She was the one who was arrested.

" Her son, we learned, he is wanted for violation of probation," explained Sheriff Thomas Kerss of Nacogdoches County. "So we had to arrest him and then as we're interviewing her (Georgia Welch) we also discover that our victim was wanted on a warrant from another jurisdiction."

Family members say the charges against Welch had been dismissed two years ago, but as of this afternoon no one has told the sheriff's department.

"If there was an arrangement made it fell through the cracks somewhere else in that system," said Kerss.

Family members are desperately trying to get the injured woman out of jail.

"It enrages me," said Banning.

Meanwhile,  sheriff's deputies are looking for Welch as his alleged victim sits in the county jail.

Welch lives in the Etoile area and has a Morgan's Cove address. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts should contact the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Department.
