Wood Co. authorities nab copper thief's

MINEOLA, TX - The Wood County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at the Mineola Metal and Iron on Highway 80. Deputy Threadgill met with the complainant who advised that they had located some items that had been stolen from the complainant's residence.

The deputy recovered and returned the items to the owner. Further investigation revealed that the suspects who had taken the stolen merchandise to the Mineola Metal and Iron were Patrick Larry McPhearson, a 23 year male from Quitman, Texas, and Misty Elizabeth Wheeler, a 31 year old female, also from Quitman, Texas.

Deputy Threadgill obtained an arrest warrant for both McPhearson and Wheeler. The suspects were booked into the Wood County Detention Facility on Tuesday, 01-11-2011.

This crime was able to be solved with the help of alert citizens. The Wood County Sheriff's Department urges the public to get involved and help be the eyes and ears for the department. Let us know if you see suspicious activity. Some indicators to look for are persons around newly built homes that may be stealing copper; suspicious persons around any area that contains copper such as transfer stations and other areas that are related to the using or transmission of electricity.

The department has had the good fortune of solving several copper thefts, all of which were assisted with information gained from the watchful eyes of the citizens of Wood County.
