TYLER, TX (KLTV) – Many of us will be able to stave off this ridiculously cold weather by staying indoors, with the heat turned on; maybe with a nice cup of cocoa.
But, not everyone is so fortunate. East Texans who call the streets home do not have a lot of options.
Beds are going fast, but the Salvation Army assures that there is plenty of room for people who need to get out of the cold.
Additional cots have been set up in different areas to ensure everyone has a warm place to stay.
Because the cold weather is persisting, the Salvation Army will allow people to stay indoors at all times of the day.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will still be available for those taking shelter or just in need of a warm meal.
"We do have emergency dorm areas and also some cots set up for those who are coming in for a few days just to get out of the cold. We also always have our programs available: our work program and our drug and rehabilitation program, so those that want to get out of the cold and enter a program, it's great," said Vicky Hastings of the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is prepared to hold up to 200 people before needing to utilize the cots.
