Released by the Henderson County District Attorney's Office:

KEMP, TX (KLTV) - Jackie Ray Keith, 44, of Kemp pled guilty to the criminally negligent homicide of Hubert Oxendine, Jr., 52, of Tool Monday in Mark Calhoon's 3rd Judicial District Court.

Criminally negligent homicide carries a punishment range from 180 days to two years in a State Jail Felony facility. Keith was sentenced to the maximum of two years.

Keith was indicted for the offense by a Henderson County Grand Jury last year after a November 2009 hit and run crash on Hwy 274 in Tool.

The indictment in the case alleged that Keith attempted to pass another car in an unsafe manner when he struck Oxendine who was walking on the side of the road at the time.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered Oxendine deceased.

An investigation was launched by the Henderson County District Attorney's office along with Tool PD.  The investigation led officials to Keith who subsequently surrendered himself and the vehicle he was driving at the time of the crash to authorities.

The Grand Jury also charged Keith with failure to stop and render aid and tampering with evidence.  Keith also pled guilty to those charges and received two years in the penitentiary for each charge.
