East Texas contractor leaves people waiting for work

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - He's the East Texas man popping up in jails across the state for the same thing.  Authorities are investigating a Quitman contractor people say they paid, but never saw any work.

A red roof stands out from the crowd, but couldn't stand up to a serious hail storm last summer.  Following a friend's recommendation, Wayne called Richard Wright, owner of Exterior Home Design.

Young signed the contract and gave Wright a check for just over $8,000, but the new roof set to be done by August...wasn't.  When November rolled around, Young was still staring at the same old roof.

So Young filed a complaint and found he wasn't alone.  Tyler's Better Business Bureau now shows five pending complaints against Wright.  Exterior Home Design's BBB status is now revoked from unanswered complaints state wide.

Young's problem was shared by others in Upshur, Wood, and Van Zandt county, but now victims from as far as Ector and Andrews county are coming forward.  Authorities are catching on. Wood county arrested Wright December 6th charging him with 3 counts of theft related to uncompleted work on other homes. 3 days later, Wright spent the night in Van Zandt County jail, facing another theft charge.

Wright has since bonded out of jail. We tried calling him at his work, but calls were not returned. Authorities tell us there are no current warrants for his arrest, but they are continuing to tie more claims to his company. If you or someone you know did not receive work promised by Richard wright, please call the better business bureau.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
