LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) – A woman is hospitalized Tuesday after she was repeatedly hit over the head with a tree branch and robbed of her purse.

Longview Police say the 57-year-old woman was attacked near an apartment complex in the 300 block of Lake Lamond Road.

The woman was hospitalized in Dallas with a shattered arm, broken fingers and a deep gash on her forehead.

The family says they don't understand why the attacker used this kind of violence.

The victim's niece says her Aunt is on a long road to recovery.

"She had surgery last night on her arm and she's in recovery now. So she's doing better in a lot less pain than she was yesterday, still in pain nonetheless," says the niece.

The woman is expected to undergo additional operations on her right arm.

There is not a detailed description of the attacker. Longview Police urge anyone with information about the beating to come forward.
