LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV) - A Carthage couple is celebrating the birth of the first baby in Longview in the new year. The first Longview baby of 2011 was born at 3:23 this morning at Good Shepherd medical center. Carrie Pierce went into labor on new years eve, a full 17 days before her expected due date.
"My due date was January 18th, there's nothing you can do you're just there and just waiting like everybody else and we didn't think we would be the first," she says.
The Carthage couple were aware that their child might be the first born in the new year in Longview, but they had bigger concerns.
"Because she was early I was worried about the complications," Carrie says.
Through a 9 hour labor, husband Nathan says one particular time was the hardest.
"I'd say probably the last 15 minutes really," he says.
At 3:23 this morning 7-pound-8-ounce Nyla came into the world.
"Its exciting for the staff here too for the nurses and doctors , you know new years eve big night, its exciting to be a part of the delivery of the first baby, after 3 o'clock I thought surely at least another baby had been born before she was," Carrie says.
Aside from new years day, they both say what all parents say about bringing a new life into the world.
"Its indescribable , its amazing my little girl is finally here," Nathan says.
"Its very nice, we're very happy," says Carrie.
