TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas soldier welcomed in the new year a little early by finally meeting his new son. When Sergeant Jared Moses left for Afghanistan 9 months ago, he knew he would not be there for the birth of his child. But today in Tyler, 4 month old Ledger Moses met the man who shares his smile.

A flag waving crowd and family surprised Moses this afternoon for a welcome he thought was for someone else. "100% caught me off guard," said Moses. "I saw everybody standing there I was kind of hoping there was another soldier walking behind me. This is the reason why we do what we do and it's definitely heart warming to see that people still care."

Sergeant Moses will spend the next two weeks in Tyler before returning to Afghanistan for six months. He says he looks forward to spending time with his new fishing buddy.
