GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) – A high speed chase lasted more than an hour and spanned two East Texas counties ends with one man in custody.
The Department of Public Safety says a trooper initiated a traffic stop on Hwy 31 eastbound just after midnight Friday morning.
35-year-old Kevin Scott Smith of Tyler did not pull over, prompting a high-speed chase down Hwy 31 into Gregg County.
According to officials, Smith turned his vehicle around and drove back into Smith County, then rammed his truck into a patrol car before stopping.
The DPS trooper who was hit was not hurt in the crash. Smith was taken to ETMC with minor injuries.
Smith was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving while intoxicated, evading arrest, and aggravated assault against a public servant.
