Rusk Co. man in custody for assault against Public servant

Released by the Rusk County Sheriff's Office:

RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Friday, December 24, 2010, approximately 7:15 am, a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper requested assistance of Rusk County Sheriff's Office Deputies to County Road 314 South, in Henderson.   The request was due to a suspect believed to be armed, who had previously left the scene of an accident.

Upon Law Enforcement's arrival, shots were fired by the suspect, 44 years old, white male, of Henderson.  After discharging the firearm the suspect then pointed the weapon at the Officers.  The suspect did not fire the weapon at the officers; the suspect then turned and ran, throwing his firearm to the ground.  After a brief foot chase the officers apprehended the suspect.  The officers did not return any gunfire at the suspect.

The suspect was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant.  The suspect remains in the Rusk County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle stated this was diligent work by both agencies and very thankful no one was injured.
