DALLAS, TX (KLTV) - Authorities say he's extremely dangerous, and tonight an East Texas fugitive is on the run again after attempting to wrangle a gun from a Dallas police officer. Simon Lopez is wanted for capital murder in Smith County for the death of his girlfriend's one-year-old son.

Dallas Police arrived at the Red Crown Inn in south east Dallas to serve Lopez an arrest warrant, and that's when Lopez charged at the officers and grabbed their gun.

"As they approached the room, they believed the suspect was in, he immediately came out of that room and attacked one of our officers," Sergeant Warren Mitchell with the Dallas Police Department said.

Sergeant. Mitchell said the officer's gun was drawn when he approached the room, and Lopez charged and grabbed the gun.

"They struggled over the weapon and the weapon discharged," Sergeant. Mitchell said.

Officials said it's unclear if Lopez was hit by the bullet, but the suspect disappeared into nearby woods and police are still searching for him.

Today marks a month since baby Jeremy was killed. His autopsy report shows he died from a torn Atrium in his heart caused by blunt force trauma. Lopez's East Texas relatives said they want Lopez arrested. They're seeking justice for Jeremy. They also said Lopez may have been staying in Dallas with his sister.
