Latest Tyler Pipe Injury Highlights Blood Shortage

An employee at Tyler Pipe is still in critical condition after an accident Tuesday morning.

46-year old David Willis was injured during maintenance work. His chest was crushed by a piece of machinery.

While he is still in intensive care, his family is calling on East Texans to donate blood. The Stewart Regional Blood Center has just one day's supply on hand. And they say another serious accident could use it quickly.

"Anytime someone is in an accident, everyone feels helpless, and they want something to do to help and this is something that people can do. It doesn't cost any money," says Lorie Schenck, Stewart spokeswoman.

Tyler Pipe co-workers will be holding a blood drive at the plant next week, to replace the pints of blood Willis is using.
