TYLER, TX (KLTV) - KLTV has learned that the baby girl that was struck by her father early Sunday morning will most likely have permanent brain damage.
According to Lt. Tony Dana, CPS officials say that the extent of the child's injuries are not currently known, but the possibility of permanent brain damage is very likely.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the father of the child first claimed he tripped and fell while carrying the baby, but later admitted to striking the infant out of frustration while under the influence of alcohol.
"The baby girl was later transported to Children's Medical Center in Dallas for further treatment that's where she remains and she is in very grave conditions at this point," said Dana.
The father has been arrested, and charged with one count of injury to a child, a first degree felony. As of Monday night, he was being held on a $500,000 bond.
