Carthage wins state a third straight year

Carthage has defeated Coldspring Oakhurst 47 to 22  in the 3A Division II State Championship at Cowboys Stadium.  It's the Bulldogs' third straight title.  Only the second 3A team to ever do so.

Coldspring came up empty on a seven minute opening drive, after an interception by Carthage's Xavier Allen at the Bulldogs 15 yard line.  It took Carthage one play to score on their first possession as Anthony Morgan hit Courtlyn Ware for an 85 yard touchdown.  But Coldspring scored it's first touchdown after an Anthony Morgan fumble.  Coldspring then converted the two point conversion.

Anthony Morgan and Hunter Holland led the Bulldogs on another scoring drive in the second quarter.  Morgan hit Jalen Claiborne for a touchdown and then completed the two point conversion.

After Carthage took the lead, Sherman Gilbert caught a 52 yard touchdown pass.  Coldspring Oakhurst then coverted their second two point conversion.

Back comes Carthage as Morgan hits Cortlyn Ware for his second touchdown catch of the night.  A Hunter Holland two point catch, puts the Bulldogs back up by seven.

After a Coldspring fumble is recovered by the Bulldogs deep in Coldspring territory, Morgan continues his MVP performance with a 4th touhdown pass.  Jalen Claiborne catches his second of the night.  Bulldogs took a 14 point lead with under two minutes to play in the first half. 

Coldspring drove the field in the final seconds, scoring a touchdown with two seconds to play in the half.  The Bulldogs stuffed the two point converstion.  Coldspring had three first half turnovers.

Anthony Morgan opens the second half with another big touchdown pass.  Jalen Claiborne catches his third score of the day.   Courtlyn Ware then added his third touchdown catch of the game. 

It was a scoreless 4th quarter as the Carthage defense pitches a second half shutout.  Anthony Morgan finishes with six touchdown passes.  Claiborne and Ware have three touchdown catches each.
