Jarvis Student to present at Science Conference in D.C.

Released by Jarvis Christian College:

HAWKINS, TX (KLTV) - Mr. Cory Hamilton a native Dallas and graduate of W.W. Samuell High School is a junior Biology major at Jarvis Christian College.

Mr. Hamilton was chosen on December 3, 2010, to present his research paper and give an oral presentation at the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM. Mr. Hamilton will present his paper at the conference which will be held in Washington, D.C. on February 23-26, 2011.

During the summer Cory worked as an intern for Dr. Shakhawat Bhuiyan of Jarvis on the research to be presented.

Their research was done on proper cell function which depends on correct protein localization. Proteins are essential to structure and function of the body. The goal of this project is to understand the molecular mechanism of protein translocation.

The conference is designed to help students to enhance their science communication skills; better understand how to prepare for science careers in a global workforce; and, to find out about summer, graduate school and employment opportunities.

Cory is a Presidential Scholar, a member of Tri Beta Honor Society and Scholoa at Jarvis. He enjoys doing research which, he says, will help him on his application to medical school. His plan is to become a medical practitioner.
