Arsonists admit to burning Smith County churches

SMITH COUNTY (KLTV) - The two men accused of burning down ten east Texas churches have admitted to burning five Smith County churches.

Twenty-year-old Jason Bourque entered guilty pleas for five counts of arson and three counts of attempted arson. Those counts stem from fires that destroyed Dover Baptist Church, Tyland Baptist Church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fellowship of Prairie Creek Church and Clear Spring Missionary Baptist Church. The attempted arson charges are from damaged caused at Penbrook Baptist, Clearview Baptist and Heritage Baptist Churches.

Twenty-two-year-old Daniel McAllister entered guilty pleas for the two counts of arson and two counts of attempted arson with which he was charged.
The attempted arson charges stemmed from acts committed at Penbrook Baptist and Clearview Baptist.

Sentencing for Bourque and McAllister will be held on January 10th.
