Released by The Rusk County Sheriff's Department:

RUSK COUNTY, TX - On December 13, 2010, at approximately 11:15pm, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit seized approximately 5 lbs. of marijuana during a traffic stop.

K-9 Deputy stopped a 2000 Kia SUV on US Hwy 59 North, south of Rusk County.

During the traffic stop the deputy indicated criminal activity and asked the suspects for consent to search the vehicle. Both suspects occupying the vehicle consented to the search of the vehicle.  During the search of the vehicle's back seat area, the K-9 Deputy discovered 5 bags which contained marijuana.  The marijuana weighed approximately 5 lbs.

The Deputy seized the marijuana, arrested and charged both suspects with possession of marijuana.  Both suspects of Cleveland, Mississippi, remain in the Rusk County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle stated this type of criminal activity will not be tolerated in Rusk County and those that choose to traffic drugs through this county will be arrested and prosecuted.  This is due to diligent work by K-9 Deputy Jason Smith and canine Caro.
