A special ceremony was held in Longview today to recognize an historical site linked to emancipation.
At Longview's Grove park on Green Street, the Gregg County Historical Commission dedicated a marker at the site where freed slaves held worship services in the 1860's. The land was sold to African Americans in 1871.
The mayor and several members of the historic commission were on hand for the ceremony.
