TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Armas family in Longview got an early Christmas present this morning delivered to the Tyler Airport. U.S. Navy's Daniel Armas came home today for the holidays and will be home for the next two and a half weeks. Armas has patrolled the rivers and water waves in Afghanistan this past year for the U.S. Navy.

Since it's been one full year since Armas has seen his family, they look forward to spend quality time together this holiday season. They came to the airport this morning to welcome him home with hugs and balloons. Even though it's been hard for the Armas family to not see their son, they know Daniel is out there serving for a good reason. His father Ramon Armas said, " We are proud of him, we are proud of him because you know he's serving the country, and that's what he wants to do. That's what he likes to do."

Daniel Armas reports back shortly after New Years Day, but does not know what part of the middle east he will return. to.
