Woman arrested for setting Tyler police car on fire

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - KLTV has confirmed that a woman climbed the fence of the back parking lot of the Tyler Police Department and set a police cruiser on fire.

Police say Payton Nicole Herrington, 19, of Lindale doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire. Police say Herrington set the police car on fire out of anger.

She's charged with arson and criminal trespassing.

Police say the vehicle was fully engulfed, but police officers were able to extinguish the fire before fire crews responded.

Tyler Fire Chief, Neal Franklin says that one truck crew was dispatched at 6:00 this morning to respond to a car fire in the back parking lot of the Tyler Police Department.

Fire crews requested a second unit, followed by an investigation.

The fire was under control and the scene was cleared by 7:04 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. We will have more details as they become available.
