WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Anna Smith Brown, 68, died Sunday as the result of a two-car accident at the intersection of MLK Parkway and Kerr Avenue.  Her 20-month-old granddaughter who was riding with her was put in ICU at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

As of Monday, the 20-month-old was in stable condition at NHRMC.

According to Lucy Crockett with the Wilmington Police Department, Brown was rushing her granddaughter to the hospital after the young child was bitten by a dog.

Witnesses say a Nissan Quest hit Brown, who was driving a Suzuki Forenza, because she ran a red light.  The Suzuki slammed into a utility pole.

Michael Russell Breach, 56 of Leland, and his passenger escaped the Nissan without serious injury.  Officials say Breach had the right of way when he entered the intersection on a green light.

No charges have been placed in connection with this crash.
