A move by an East Texas State Senator could mean the end of the redistricting bill. Bill Ratliff said Monday he'll join 10 Democrats in opposing a redrawing of Texas congressional districts. It takes 11 senators to block a bill from debate in the 31 member Texas Senate. In a statement Ratliff said, "It is clear that those who are leading this effort apparently have no knowledge of, or regard for, the representative balance between the urban/suburban power base and the diminishing influence of the rural/agricultural community." A GOP supported redistricting bill has already been passed by the Texas house.
