Emory man killed in small plane crash

RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man was killed in a small plane crash in Rains County, Tuesday afternoon.

80-year-old John Armstrong was the owner of First National Bank of Emory.  DPS said the plane crashed shortly after 2 p.m. on a private airstrip off of Highway 19, north of Emory. We're told Armstrong was trying to land when the plane flipped over, landed on its top and caught fire.

Next of kin has been notified and Armstrong's body has been taken to Wilson Orwasky Funeral Home in Emory.

The FAA was notified and the investigation is ongoing.
