Salvation Army Kettle Campaign begins

Released by Tyler Salvation Army:

TYLER, TX - Here in Tyler, "Black Friday" signifies more than just a day of bargains and shopping. It also signifies the start of The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. Listen for the bells at our over 26 locations throughout Smith County and remember to give.

Don't have cash? No problem! This year we are excited to announce the addition of credit/debit card machines at 18 of our locations. This is an easy and quick new way to give. Another new way to give is through a text donation.

Text the word "GIVE" to 85944 to make a $10 donation to The Salvation Army. For the sixth year in a row, The Salvation Army will allow fans to become online bell-ringers by signing up to host an Online Red Kettle at

The program allows individuals and organizations to host their own "virtual" red kettle on their personal, group or company website to help raise money for the Christmas campaign. This year's campaign will feature simplified integration to blogs and Facebook pages and also allow participants to manage their kettle through a free iPhone application.

In addition to the free Online Kettle app, iPhone users can download or update the popular "Bellringer app." Another app available for download is the new "The Salvation Army Christmas Music app." This app streams a variety of Christmas favorites. Priced at $2.99, $1.00 of each download will be donated to the Red Kettle Campaign.

For the second time, The Salvation Army in Tyler will give you an opportunity to "Catch the Bug!" Watch for our brightly-wrapped VW bug around town to spot businesses who are partnering with The Salvation Army for the day.

Businesses have generously offered The Salvation Army a portion of their proceeds for the day by "hosting the bug." Check to find out where the bug will be parked each day.

Another returning tradition is the paper kettles being "sold" at Chick-Fil-A. A dollar makes a difference—donate a dollar to The Salvation Army and write your name on a paper kettle to be hung up at the restaurant location.

We are excited about starting off our Kettle season and seeing all the new and old traditions unite to raise the support needed to change the lives of the least, the last, and the lost in our community. Each kettle represents an opportunity to give to the needy in your own community, and each coin or bill dropped in a Salvation Army kettle goes directly into changing the lives of your East Texas neighbors who are struggling.

In this time of financial insecurity and stress, it is important to give now more than ever. This year, our goal is to raise $1 million, and even this large amount may not be enough to meet the ever-increasing need we combat each day. Anything you can give is dearly needed and appreciated—whether it be through adopting a child on our Angel Tree, dropping money into our red kettles, or by volunteering to ring the bell at one of our kettle locations—you are all needed!

Over 2,500 hours of bellringing still need to be filled! Visit to donate or call 903-592-4361 for more information on how you can help. Thank you for the wonderful support and generosity the Tyler community is always willing to provide and share.

Without you we could do nothing!
