Man who fled police faces murder charge

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- An east Texas man is now charged with murder after a frightening accident he caused while fleeing from police.

37 year old Charles Ray Owens is jailed in Harrison county, charged with murder for the November 10th crash that claimed the life of a passing motorist.

Owens was fleeing law enforcement along Page road , when he ran a stop sign and rammed a vehicle driven by 62 year old Robert Smith. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Owens was fleeing from a warrant for burglary out of Michigan. Owens was released from the hospital on the 17th and charged with murder, along with having a suspended license and no insurance.

He's held on $200-thousand dollars bond. He faces 5-to-99 years on the charge of murder.
