Meals on Wheels delivering Thanksgiving meals tomorrow

Released by Meals on Wheels:

TYLER, TX - Meals on Wheels is delivering hot and fresh Thanksgiving meals to the homebound elderly and disabled in Tyler on Thanksgiving Day. Each year, clients are asked if they will be at home alone for Thanksgiving and in need of a meal.

"This year, we have about 100 clients who have requested to receive the Thanksgiving meal," said Mike Powell, Executive Director, "It's unfortunate that some of our clients are at home alone for the holidays, but we are glad that our generous volunteers want to be sure they have something hot to eat."

Meals on Wheels volunteers will begin delivering meals between 10 and 10:30 and will deliver a traditional Thanksgiving meal including turkey, dressing and all of the trimmings. The meals will be prepared fresh by the dedicated chef staff at Meals on Wheels that morning, and be delivered hot to those in need.

"Meals on Wheels has been delivering the Thanksgiving meal to clients who will be alone on the holiday for over 30 years," said Powell, "Although we provided frozen meals earlier in the week to supplement the clients during the holidays, we really feel that a hot meal on the day to give thanks means a lot more. Fortunately, our volunteers feel the same way."

Meals on Wheels served 829,000 meals last year to the elderly and disabled across East Texas. With a $200,000 budget cut from federal/state contracts this year, potential clients were put on a waiting list for meals starting October 1, 2010. For more information please contact 903-593-7385.
