Inmate Who Tried Daring Escape Has Bond Raised

He leapt from the roof of the Smith County Jail, but he didn't get far. Now, Chris Whittemore is looking once again at jail time.

The daring escape attempt was made yesterday afternoon from the main jail in downtown tyler. Whittemore jumped from an exercise facility on the jail's roof, falling more than 20 feet to the ground. He ran to nearby woods, but was sniffed out by a police dog.

The escape attempt has put his bond now at $400,000 in all. Whittemore was facing trial for aggravated sexual assault of a child, and a parole violation.
