Five star Wildcat

By Ryan Peterson - bio | email

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) -     Every year Rivals dot com ranks the top high school seniors in the nation.  Only 16 kids in the entire country are considered five star recruits.  One of those 16 kids can be found in Whitehouse.

As the Wildcats get ready for the playoffs, no one can seem to stop Trey Metoyer.

"You'll be making a block, look up and hear the crowd screaming," said Whitehouse Center Scott Sanders."

"You look down field and he's (Trey) seven feet in the air making the catch," said Whitehouse Tackle Melvin Moorman.  "It's crazy."

Metoyer says it's all reaction.

"I jump, I catch," he said.  "It doesn't really surprise me. I just go out there, do what I do and make plays."

A lot of plays. Metoyer has 21 touchdown catches in ten games. The future Oklahoma Sooner has scored at least once in every game this season.

"I'm not really a cocky person," said Metoyer.  "I'm going to be real with you. No one has stopped me yet."

Perhaps the best high school receiver in the country, Metoyer doesn't care about playoff stats, he wants a historic playoff run.

"We've been with each other since pop warner, so now is the time," he said.  "It's the last time we play with each other and we've got to go out there and make it happen."

Metoyer's teammates say they've enjoyed playing with one of the best.

"It makes us feel good because we've gotten to play along side the big talk in (East Texas)," said Moorman.  "It's pretty cool."

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
