Two Die In Pedestrian-Train Collision

Two people are dead after being hit by a train.

The accident happened just after eight Friday morning in White Oak, in woods south of highway eighty and Industrial Road. According to a witness, three people were walking the tracks and apparently didn't hear the oncoming train.

"A witness from the location," White Oak Police Chief Charlie Smith says, "reported that three people had been on the railroad trestle. One of them had jumped to safety and sustained minor injuries, the other two did not make it from the trestle."

A representative of Union Pacific Railway contacted police, and the train came to a stop at the site until a preliminary investigation was completed. The names of the victims haven't been released, and police say they don't know why they were walking on the tracks.
