TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A 2-year-old toddler died after being struck by a vehicle that was driven by his grandfather, Tucson Police Department officials stated.
On November 8 at about 7:15 am, Tucson police received a 911 call regarding a child struck by a vehicle in the 100 Block of West Nebraska.
The victim, 2-year-old Evan Edgar Lopez, was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was transported by to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives say the initial investigation revealed that the victim's grandfather was operating the vehicle and moving it from one location in the yard to another. The victim was somehow able to get to a position that placed him in the path of the vehicle when he was struck.
Police have not filed charges.
Neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be a factor in the incident, according to a TPD news release.
