Proud of East Texas: Beth Fehlbaum

Beth Fehlbaum drew on her experience as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse to write "Hope in Patience".

From the age of eight to the age of fifteen, Beth was sexually abused by her stepfather. Overcoming her fears to finally tell her mother at fourteen, she was shattered by her mother's reaction and non response.

Beth's main character in her book is named Ashley Nicole and much of what is in the book comes from bet's experience. Tragically, Beth an Ashley are not alone. The statistics are staggering: one out of every four children in our county is sexually abused before the age of eighteen. Beth, who is also a teacher of at risk youth, hopes her book inspires children and teens to speak out and to know they are not alone.

"Hope in Patience" is available at Barnes and Noble and
