Union Can't Get Tire Workers' Contract Rolling

No progress was made Tuesday in the contract dispute between local Kelly Tire employees and Kelly's parent company, Goodyear.

The current contract expires on Sunday. That means by next week, workers will be on a day to day basis at the plant.

No new negotiations have been planned, but Local 746 President, Jim Wansle says no strike has been planned either. "There's a level of frustration for both sides. We certainly haven't reached impasse yet. So, there's no sense that we've reached impasse, and there still is a sense that we should be able to reach an agreement."

After Sunday, either side can declare a work stoppage with just 72 hours notice.
