LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- The importance of one person-one vote was the focus of a grass roots gathering in Longview today.

Supporters of the tea party and we the people gathered on the Gregg county courthouse lawn to discuss what they want from government, and how they can change things on election day.

"We are not democrats we are not republicans, we are teaching what the schools are not which is responsibility not to the government but to the country," said tea party supporter Joe Murphy.

Their signs echoed the issues that drive the movement, and drive them to vote against establishment politicians who aren't listening, and spending that's out of control.

"All the political wrangling in congress is to keep socialist democrats in congress," said one supporter.

"I have serious doubts if Washington D.C. ever listens to us, but that's the reason why we're here," said Murphy.

"We've got to hold them accountable, we can't let them drive this bus off the cliff again," said Congressman Louie Gohmert.

Gohmert spoke to the patriotic crowd, who openly voiced their displeasure at current government leadership.

"It's the people and they're the government and they hire servants and Tuesday is a big hiring day to hire servants to go represent them," said Gohmert.

"You know sometimes you just have to take a 2-by-4 and get their attention and that what we're trying to do," said Murphy.

Organizers tells us the event drew larger crowds than expected. Between 400 and 500 people attended the rally this afternoon.
