Tyler's also well below the state average in unemployment numbers. But East Texans needing a job say it's still a struggle to find a career.
That's why close to 500 East Texans came out to the Tyler Workforce Center. They were meeting with the 20 businesses taking applications and resumes. Many of the businesses like Wal-mart, Tyler Professional Staffing and Trinity Mother Frances say the jobs are there if people are flexible and persistent.
"I come out here (to the Workforce Center) weekly," says Sheila Foley. "I call around; I look in the newspaper; the want ads; the job search paper; and I call around; and I interview and I just know after today, after meeting people face to face... I feel like today is really my day."
The Texas Workforce Center on Troup Highway says they're open Monday through Friday for anyone needing help in the sometimes tough job search.
