A Better East Texas: Voter Education

What is worse than not voting in the elections next month? Voting – but not having a clue about which you are voting for or against.  If you are like me, there have been numerous ballot entries – candidates, issues or constitutional amendments that I have voted for or against just because. There are a myriad of excuses that I have used like the candidate is from my favorite party or the wrong assumption that just because a constitutional amendment is on the ballot that there must a good reason, so it deserves my vote. Well that ends today! My pledge to myself and my family is that I will not waste my vote and you should not waste yours either if you truly care about the future of our community, state and country. Voting is a privilege and a responsibility and if we go to the trouble to register vote and then make some of our voting decisions out of convenience or supposition, then we are cheapening the value of that privilege.  Additionally, I received an email warning about the upcoming constitutional amendments on the November ballot and the higher taxes that would result from their passage.  But as it turns out this is a bogus email and there are no propositions or constitutional amendments on the ballot, just pure candidates, candidates I pledge to learn about or I will abstain from voting. Visit the statewide ballot here if you want to start your education and make your vote count even more than ever and that will make for a Better East Texas.
