Troubled women's shelter gets new life

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- A resurrection of sorts in Longview, as a once troubled women's shelter gets new life. Residents began moving back into the House of Hope women's shelter in Longview today, after numerous problems had shut them down for a while.

The zoning board of adjustments is allowing the shelter to re-open despite not meeting city code for parking spaces.

For now, the shelter will be allowed to house 20 women, and sprinklers and fire alarms are being added to get the shelter up to code. The facility voluntarily closed its doors in July after failing to meet city code.

In the past, the shelter operated with as many as 60 women living there.
