TYLER, TX (KLTV)- Hearings started Wednesday to recuse the judge in the retrial connected to the Mineola child sex ring.

Patrick "Booger Red" Kelly was originally sentenced to life in prison for his alleged role in the sex ring. That sentence was overturned in June.

Kelly's attorney, Thad Davidson, has filed a motion to recuse Judge Jack Skeen from the case, saying Judge Skeen acted hostile and with bias during Kelly's first trial.

Wednesday afternoon, defense attorney Bobby Mims, who is the consulting attorney for Davidson and his defense team, testified that Judge Skeen acted with bias and did not give Kelly a fair trial.

"I felt that there was an extremely hostile environment from the judge to the defense team," Mims testified.

No decision was made Wednesday. The hearing starts back up Thursday morning at 9.
