TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A former Commander-in-Chief commanded quite an audience Tuesday night. U.T. Tyler hosted George W. Bush at the Cowan Center Tuesday evening as part of their distinguished lecture series.

The 43rd President of the United States drew a sold out crowd. Every one of the center's 2,000 seats were filled as East Texans paid up to $76 to attend the speech followed by a half hour Q&A session. The former president was greeted by multiple standing ovations before reflecting on life outside the White House and stressing the principles he relied on during his two terms in office.

U.T. Tyler campus police teamed up with Secret Service for tight security the day of the event. Former President Bush's arrival on campus follows in the footsteps of his father. George Bush was the last Commander-in-Chief to speak at the school back in 2006.
