AIKEN, SC (WIS) - An Aiken County daycare owner has been charged with homicide by child abuse after the State Law Enforcement Division says she shook an infant to death in August.

Elouise Wade-Meria Taylor, 51, is accused of shaking a 16-month-old so hard it caused head trauma, resulting in the infant's death.

Agents said the incident happened on August 5 at Taylor's home in Aiken. The infant died on August 6 after being picked up from the daycare by its mother. The child's identity has not been released.

SLED agents arrested Taylor at her house Thursday morning.

A woman who answered the phone at the daycare says Taylor did not shake the child and the injuries must have happened after he left the daycare. She identified herself as Taylor's daughter, but ended the call when asked her name.

Taylor is in jail awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn't immediately known if Taylor has an attorney.
