DPS finds 8 pounds of drugs; suspect spotted near I-20

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - DPS is on the hunt for a man troopers pulled over with eight pounds of suspected marijuana.

Troopers pulled over an SUV Tuesday afternoon on I-20 and Highway 155 outside of Tyler.

Troopers say shortly after the stop, the driver, identified as Fredrick McLeod of Louisiana, jumped out of the SUV and fled into some nearby woods.

McLeod left his ID behind, along with eight pounds of what investigators believe is marijuana.

DPS searched the woods and even called in helicopters to help find McLeod, but the search was called off Tuesday night.

The man was spotted Wednesday morning, leaving the AB Value Inn south of I-20 on Hwy 155N., as he was walking to a taxi he had called for. When the suspect saw the police he took off running.

If you know where Fredrick McLeod may be headed, you are asked to call authorities immediately.
