TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It is the Italian-Mexican culinary creation, bringing a taco to spaghetti night everywhere: spaghetti tacos.
The handheld pasta appearing on Nickelodeon's iCarly has sparked interest with kids, like Jeannine Douglas's daughter. "She loves to watch that show and they talk about spaghetti tacos," said Douglas.
Parents are interested, too. "I'd probably try one," said one parent. "I'm pretty well known for trying about anything."
Now, spaghetti tacos are fighting their way onto trendy menu's at well known restaurants and making their mark in pop culture. Since being introduced by iCarly's wacky older brother, Spencer, the crunchy cuisine has even drawn a Facebook group with more than 1,500 followers.
A search for the recipe at 'spaghettitacos' did not tell us much. It appeared too many others had the same idea, shutting the site down so we turned to a real chef for answers.
"Sounds fun so we're willing to try it," said Joe Salinas, a chef.
He started things off a with a serious saute. "You can add whatever you want: meat, vegetables, fish, whatever you like," explained Salinas. Second, pasta arrived cooked to perfection. A few tosses later, it was ready to be dished out. The spaghetti tacos were messy but good.
Now, is it a crazy idea? Yes, but it seems, in this case, iCarly might have themselves a nice little recipe.
If you dare to sample a spaghetti taco for yourself, you are in luck. Joe's Italian Restaurant in Tyler says they have gotten so many requests, they will be offering their own version of the hand held pasta.
