Marriage Party Brings Marrow Donor, Recipient Together

Jason Cofer got married Saturday afternoon, and one of his groomsmen was more than just another attendant in the wedding. In 2000, Jason donated his bone marrow to a teenager in Montana.

That boy, Blake Underrinner, survived the bone marrow transplant, and served as a groomsman today in Jason's wedding. It was a special moment for the two men, who have grown close.

"He's part of my family now," Jason said. "He's received my bone marrow, he's like my little brother now. I wanted him to be a part of one of the biggest days of my life."

Jason originally signed up to be a marrow donor more than a decade before being contacted in 2000. He didn't get to actually meet Blake until after the procedure was successful, in December 2001.
