Lighthouse announces employees of the year

TYLER, TX – The East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind announces Tony Thompson and Tim Dawson as their employees of the year.

Thompson received the Peter J. Salmon Direct Labor Employee of the Year Award for people who are blind and employed in direct labor manufacturing. Dawson was awarded the Milton J. Samuelson Career Achievement Award for people who are legally blind and serve on indirect labor operations. Both awards require successful on-the-job performance and positive activities both at work and in the community.

Thompson has been an employee of Horizon Industries for 23 years mastering nearly every line position including identification badge manufacturing, press board binder assembly and serpentine belt distribution for military transport vehicles. In the three years Dawson has been with The Lighthouse, he has moved from Horizon Industries to Lighthouse Graphics as a customer service representative.

Both men attended the National Industries for the Blind Annual Training Conference last week in Cincinnati, OH where they were recognized among other Lighthouse employees from across the country. The conference celebrates employees of the year and business management training graduates, educates and trains attendees on different programs, industry reports and updates.

The Lighthouse has three operating divisions: Horizon Industries, Lighthouse Graphics and East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind Rehabilitative Services which collectively employs blind and visually impaired people.
