Former UT Tyler president dies after short illness

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Doctor George F. Hamm, who served as president of UT Tyler for 17 years, died Sunday after a short illness.

In 1981, Dr. Hamm became just the second president of the university, and continued to serve until 1998.

He is survived by his wife, two children, and six grandchildren.

Dr. George F. Hamm was 79 years old.
