ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - The eleventh annual Senior Olympics was hosted by the Trinity Valley Activity Director's Association. When it started only four nursing facilities were attending. Now. it has grown to nine with over 100 competitors.

Nine nursing facilities were good enough to make the cut, but there will only be one winner in each competition. Ten events like Dominoes, Walker Race, Ring Toss, Wheelchair Race, Hoop it Up and Pitching Washers.

The Washer Pitch was a game of skill and concentration. Around 50 competed for the trophy, Much of the competition was eliminated quickly. It was not long before they were down to the final three. Velma Cook from Oakwood Place, Earl Lee from Silver Lake and Georgia Johnson of Athens Health Club - a virtual unknown in the sport also made the cut.

Velma wins in the end, with Earl and Georgia taking second and third place.

"It's a surprise to me what I can do!" said Velma.

Velma took home the Washer trophy, but everyone at the Senior Olympics is a winner.

Competitors say they look forward to the games all year and some of them may even start training for it.
