H.E.A.T. Registration Offered Friday, Could Keep Cars from Being Stolen

East Texans continue to be the victims of auto thefts, but law enforcement say there's a free tool to help stop criminals. It's called the Help End Auto Theft, or H.E.A.T. program. A sticker alerts officers to stop your car in the overnight hours or at border checkpoints to make sure you're behind the wheel.

The East Texas Auto Theft Task Force and Tyler Police will be holding a H.E.A.T. registration Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harvey Convention Center parking lot in Tyler.

In addition to the free H.E.A.T. stickers, they'll etch your vehicles I.D. number on all of the windows, making it harder for your car to be sold for parts.
